Where to See the Fall Colors in Estes Park

Fall colors in Estes Park, Colorado

Estes Park is home to miles of splendid beauty in Colorado. Majestic mountains, countless alpine trees, and other serene sights all reside there. In the summer, you’re surrounded by this vibrant greenery when exploring, but as Autumn rolls around, the area blooms in gilded colors of orange, red, and yellow. Leaf peeping is one of the must-do fall activities in Estes Park, along with taking in the unique season sights. Get ready for the most fantastic autumn getaway surrounded by fall colors in Estes Park!

Twin Sisters Trailhead

If you’re planning a fall trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, we know the less-crowded leaf-peeping spots! The Twin Sisters Trailhead is a more challenging hike within the park, but worth the journey for the beautiful autumn views! The aspens are glowing with beautiful golden hues along this trail. You also get a great view of Longs Peak and Meeker Peak once you reach the top!

Deer Mountain Trailhead

Deer Mountain Trailhead is another excellent Rocky Mountain National Park trail to avoid crowds. Plenty of fall colors can be seen on this trail in an almost panoramic view. This trail can get chilly as you hike further up; we recommend bringing a jacket or sweater!

Lily Lake

Lily Lake is technically a part of Rocky Mountain National Park but is closer to Estes Park. This trail provides a more leisurely hike with views of Estes Cone, Mount Meeker, and Longs Peak. As you look out into the vista, you’ll see pops of fall color spread out along the flora.

Glen Haven

Hop on Highway 34 and go back in time with a drive through Glen Haven. This scenic drive has opportunities to see fall foliage and a view of a mountain village straight from the old Western times.

Bond Park

You don’t have to venture far into Estes Park to see the fall foliage! Bond Park not only hosts fun events throughout the year but has excellent views to take in during this cozy season. The surrounding trees are adorned in seasonal colors, and you have a great chance to see an elk snacking on some grass!

Trail Ridge Road Viewpoints

Known as one of the most scenic drives in the country, Trail Ridge Road offers unmatched fall color views from up high. The road climbs above 12,000 feet, offering a unique perspective of the golden aspen groves below. Pull-offs like Many Parks Curve, Rainbow Curve, and Forest Canyon Overlook are perfect for leaf peeping and photography. Be sure to check road conditions, as this route closes with early snowfall.

Kawuneeche Valley

On the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park, Kawuneeche Valley is a quieter spot that’s rich with wildlife and color. Lined with aspens and cottonwoods that glow in fall, it’s the place to spot moose wandering through willow meadows or elk bugling in the distance. The cool, open expanse and winding Colorado River make it feel like your own secret slice of autumn.

Lake Estes

Right in town, Lake Estes is a must-visit during the fall season. Walk or bike the 3.75-mile trail that loops the lake and take in brilliant reflections of the changing leaves on the water’s surface. With mountain backdrops and easy access, it’s a perfect way to enjoy fall without venturing far.
