Elk about to cross the street at Estes Park, Colorado

Winter is right around the corner in Estes Park! While you may believe there isn’t much to do in our Rocky Mountain town when chillier weather approaches, Estes Park offers plenty of fun in the winter! Rocky Mountain National Park is still open, downtown Estes Park glows in holiday lights, and much more. The typical busy crowds are also gone, so what are you waiting for? Get ready for some fun this winter in Estes Park!

Christmas Tree Lighting in Downtown Estes Park

On November 19, join the Estes Park community at the Annual Tree Lighting in George Hix Riverside Plaza. The lighting ceremony will be held at 5:30 PM with horse-drawn wagon rides and fun holiday activities beforehand. This is a terrific free way to ring in the holiday season and be treated to a special visit by Santa!

Holiday Shopping

There’s no better way to feel enjoy winter than a holiday shopping spree under the twinkling lights in downtown Estes Park. Elkhorn and Moraine Avenue are both home to unique shops that cater to everyone on your shopping list. The Mad Moose is one of our favorite shops, it’s filled with rustic gifts such as home décor and much more!

Rocky Mountain National Park

Get bundled up this winter and take on Rocky Mountain National Park! The snow atop the mountains gives a magical glow to the park and makes for a perfect winter adventure. The reservation system has now been lifted, so visitors can visit whenever they want to explore the park’s beautiful nature.

Winter Wildlife Watching

During the winter, Estes Park’s resident elk make their way down from the mountains and have their own holiday getaway! When exploring Estes Park, it will be common to see a herd of elk relaxing and snacking on grass. Make sure to say hi from a safe distance!
